Rice wine vinegar and liquid aminos (or soy sauce) provide a tangy, umami base for this Korean bbq dipping sauce. Brown sugar adds a touch of caramelized sweetness, plus Sambal Oelek, garlic, and fresh ginger really kick up the heat! Don’t forget the sesame oil — it wouldn’t be Asian-inspired without it. In fact, I love tossing in some whole sesame seeds for extra flavor and crunch.
And remember, a little goes a long way! I found this Korean barbecue sauce to be really powerful, but I’m also sensitive to ginger. Start small and work your way up until it tastes just right.

So I jumped on my old friend Google, found a recipe from All Recipes, and changed the ingredients around to make it work for my family’s taste and for the ingredients I had on hand. (I seriously JUST had enough liquid aminos and rice wine vinegar to make it work, I was shaking the bottles to get every last drop out.)
Adding a cornstarch slurry to this Korean sauce (or any sauce, really) is an easy way to thicken it without losing a lot of volume. How to make a cornstarch slurry? Simply combine cornstarch with water until completely dissolved, then add the mixture to the saucepan. Whisk constantly as you simmer your Korean bbq sauce and watch it thicken in no time!

Being someone that loves to cook and create in the kitchen, I’m always the recipient of odds and ends that people have at home that they may not have a use for.
Just a few days ago, I received a bag of food items from a lovely woman from church. Within the bag was a tube of Korean Spicy Chili Paste — definitely not something that I’d normally use or purchase. My eight year old was ever-so-fascinated with this tube … insisting that it be used to make a spicy BBQ sauce to then use on chicken wings.

It didn’t take me long to think about it, and when I agreed, she had already pulled out what she thought was needed to quickly pull it together.
With just a few ingredients and a blender, you can have this spicy BBQ sauce ready to go. The recipe makes a whopping two cups – enough for two pint jars. Take your half onion, ginger, garlic, and apple cider vinegar and place in your blender. Blend on high until the mixture becomes a wet paste.
Once the mixture is well combined, add your ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, paste, black pepper and salt (to taste). Blend again until all the ingredients come together, adding additional apple cider vinegar as needed.
Place the BBQ sauce in half pint canning jars and refrigerate until needed. This recipe yields 2 cups (2 half pint jars).

I have not tried canning this recipe so I would not recommend. The sauce is always eaten up well before the end of the week and used on pork, chicken and as a condiment to hamburgers. It’s definitely a sweet heat!

Are you a fan of Korean BBQ? We love Korean BBQ in our home, usually with thin strips of chicken or steak marinated overnight, waiting for me to fire up the grill for our evening meal.
Korean BBQ is quick and easy to make, but essential to making it successfully is the sauce. So today we're making Korean BBQ Sauce, and I know you're going to love this one.
Korean BBQ Sauce is a sweet and spicy bbq sauce made with a base of soy sauce, fiery gochujang, pureed Asian pear and more for a sauce that is tangy and delicious, and different from your typical bbq sauce.
Korean Bbq For Hot & Spicy
It's not only good for grilled chicken and other meats, but popularly served as a dipping sauce for anything off the grill. You can also enjoy it with stir fried meats and vegetables.
Puree the Ingredients. Puree all of the ingredients together in a blender or food processor until smooth. You can leave it more chunky for a thicker bbq sauce with body, but I prefer the pear more pureed.
Simmer the Sauce. Transfer the bbq sauce mixture to a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.

Get Grilling. Grill or sauté the strips of steak or meat over medium-high heat 5-6 minutes, stirring or flipping often, until done to your liking.
