Kdramas was always fun to watch for me, but after watching alot of dramas i came to realize that i learned alot of new korean words and phrases that now if i hear it, i would quickly know it’s meaning without reading the subtitles. so, i decided to publish a post about “Common Korean words every Kdrama fan should know” .It actually depends on how many dramas you watch and how fast you are to catch the words. So, here we go!
This word is the first word every Kdrama fan should know from watching a drama. It means I love you. It’s the most common word you hear while watching a drama! The first time i heard and memorized it was after i watched Boys Over Boys and The Heirs . those two dramas were so cool that it got me to watch more korean dramas. The first word every person – or most – want to know it’s meaning in different languages is Love and I love you.
This word is thank you in korean. This word is a little different because it depends on the situation and thd relationship between you and the person you’re thanking! if you’re thanking a friend or someone you know, you can use komawayo(고마와요) . If you’re thanking someone older than you or someone you dont know, you use kamsamnida (감습니다). It’s listed as the second word because it’s the second word everyone should use in all-time!
Excellent Korean Dramas To Binge Watch And Learn Korean
This word means sorry! Korean words in general always depends on the situation! If you’re sorry for someone you do not knowor someond older than you, you can use Joesonghabnida (죄송합니다). If you’re sorry for your friend or someone you know, you can use mianhae (미안해), to be more formal, you can use mianhamnida (미안합니다) or mianeyo(미안해요). To be informal, you can also use mian(미안). Even though it seems there’s alot of words, its easy if you know what’s the situation and what does the character use.
You’ve brobably heard this word alot when the female lead call the male lead! it means hey or like you! in informal way. I’ve also heard 야, 죽을래 (ya, jugulle) which means Hey, wanna die? I actually laugh everytime i hear it because they always say it when something funny and annoying happens.
This word means awsome! i really like this word because it’s easy and simple to say! If something cool happens, i always say daebak automaticlly! Anyway, everytime i see or hear Daebak, it always remainds of Daebok of When we were not in love! His girlfriend ( who also worked on Oh Hana’s company) called daebak at first without realizing that his name Daebok – with the O not A- that’s why i still remember the word!
Melancholia (korean Drama)
These two words means why and what. I’ve actually saw the subtitles say “what” when they actaually said “(wae)” 애 which means why! after i learned some korean from the internet, i’ve realized that you can use them, but it depends on the situation. I’ve also realized that 뭐 (mwo) can also be pronounced as Bwo! these words are my favorite because the main lead always say these words three times! 애 애 애!
Jomallwo(정말로) means really formally and jinjja (진짜) means really informally! I think these two words is the most words that are said in every episode of any drama! Jinnjja is actaully the second word i knew from kdramas!
This word means “I got it” or i understand . You can also use Arassa(알ㅇ싸) which is informal! I also like this word so much!

Korean drama (Hangul: 한국드라마; RR: hanguk drama ) or K-drama refers to televised dramas in the Korean language, made in South Korea, mostly in aminiseries format, with distinctive features that set them apart from television series and soap operas made elsewhere.
South Korea started to broadcast television series in the 1960s. Today’s minideurama format of 12–24 episodes started in the 1990s, transforming traditional historical series to this format and creating the notion of “fusion sageuks”. Korean dramas are usually shot within a very tight schedule, often a few hours before actual broadcast. Screenplays are flexible and may change anytime during production, depending on viewers’ feedback, putting actors in a difficult position. Production companies often face financial issues.
K Dramas About Rich Families And Chaebols
Korean dramas are extremely popular worldwide, partially due to the spread of the Korean Wave, with streaming services that offer multiple language subtitles. Some of the most famous dramas have been broadcast via traditional television channels; for example, Dae Jang Geum (2003) was sold to 91 countries.
Korean dramas are usually helmed by one director and written by one screenwriter, thus having a distinct directing style and language, unlike American television series, where often several directors and writers work together.Series are likely to have only one season, with 12–24 episodes. Historical series (sageuk) may be longer, with 50 to 200 episodes, but they also run for only one season.
The broadcast time for dramas is 22:00 to 23:00, with episodes on two consecutive nights: Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and weekends. Different dramas appear on each of the nationwide networks, Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and on the cable channels, Joongang Tongyang Broadcasting Company (jTBC), Channel A, tvN, and Orion Cinema Network (OCN).
Luxury Products Are Everywhere In K Dramas, But Do They Always Make Sense?
The 19:00 to 20:00 evening time slot is usually for daily dramas that run from Monday through Friday. Dramas in these slots are in the telenovela format, rarely running over 200 episodes. Unlike the American soap operas, these daily dramas are not also scheduled during the day-time. Instead, the day-time schedule often includes reruns of the flagship dramas. The night-time dailies can achieve very high ratings. For example, the evening series Temptation of Wife peaked at 40.6%, according to TNS Korea.
Sageuk refers to any Korean television or film drama that is either based on historical figures, incorporates historical events, or uses a historical backdrop. While technically the word sageuk literally translates to “historical drama, ” the term is typically reserved for dramas taking place during Korean history. Popular subjects of sageuks have traditionally included famous battles, royalty, famous military leaders and political intrigues. Since the mid-2000s sageuks have achieved major success outside of Korea. Sageuks including Dae Jang Geum (aka Jewel in the Palace), Yi San, and Jumong enjoyed strong ratings and high satisfaction ratings in countries suchVietnam, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Fiji and Iran. Jumong, which aired on IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) in 2008 had 85% viewership.
Series set in contemporary times usually run for one season, for 12−24 episodes of 60 minutes. They are often centered on a love story, with family ties and relationships being in the focus. Characters are mostly idealised, with Korean male protagonists described as handsome, intelligent, emotional, and ready to love one woman for a lifetime. This has also been a contributing factor to the popularity of Korean dramas among women, as the image of Korean men became different from that of other Asian men.
