One of the first dishes to arrive at our table was the Kimbap. While vegetarian, the dish was not inferior to the ones you get at Korean restaurants. Purple rice grains were used instead of sushi rice. With savory mock meat, avocado, cheese, lettuce, yellow daikon and egg omelette being wrapped by the chewy rice grains, the Kimbap was an umami bomb that kept you going for seconds. A highly recommended dish if you’re at Daehwa!
Lastly, I was really impressed by the tangsuyuk! In order to make it vegetarian, they replaced the pork with mushroom, but it was still really tasty! The sweet and sour flavours in the sauce really did go well together. Though the texture of the batter may be a little hard, the sweetness and the umami from the fresh mushrooms within made up for it.
Though I haven't eaten much kale in my life, my friend who cooked kale before said that they did this very well as it isn't bitter and still maintained its bite! It was lightly seasoned, making it a really healthy dish.
Social Enterprise That Serves Amazing Korean Food
Let's begin with the stews, pretty much a staple to order from Korean restaurants. The Soondubu jjigae or tofu stew was really hearty, pretty spicy and the stock was well flavoured with the vegetables within! Though I prefer my tofu stew with seafood, this is tasty as well. The dwenjang jjigae or bean paste stew has the umami coming from the fermented bean paste and it is definitely hearty too!
Second visit at Daehwa as I was craving for some vegetarian Korean food! You can trust Daehwa for yummy Korean food that taste just like the original non-vegetarian versions :)
Army stew was a bit costly as it was recommended for 2 pax ($42) but it came with a lot of ingredients! Instant noodles, enoki mushroom, Chinese mushroom, sweet potato noodles, vegetarian hotdogs and luncheon meat, tofu, kimchi, and a slice of cheese. Flavour was on point 💯 and we were definitely v full by the end! Our order also came with free flow banchan and 2 bowls of brown rice.

It was really rare to find a Vegetarian Korean shop that sells a wide range of dishes and I am honestly impressed. Tried the kimchi pancake and bibimbap. Really love how the dishes are packed with alternative forms of protein!
