From September to October of 2010 on MBC, “Jangnanseureon Kiss” aired throughout the television sets of South Korea.  It is known to english speakers as “Playful Kiss” or “Mischievous Kiss” or “Naughty Kiss” (whatever floats your boat).  It stars Kim Hyun Joong as Baek Seung Jo and Jung So Min as Oh Ha Ni.  Now we love this drama for lots of reasons but the most important one being it pretty sums up our relationship XD.

The story revolves a clumsy, cute, but not the brightest girl Oh Ha Ni and a brilliant, handsome fuzz bag named Baek Seung Jo.  They both attend the same high school and Oh Ha Ni has a huge crush (fantasies and love notes and all) on the school’s sexiest nerd, Baek Seung Jo.  Despite the fact that he’s a jerk face, Oh Ha Ni is pretty darn persistant with her feelings.  After a very plot twisty earth quake knocks down Oh Ha Ni’s house, she and her father move in with Baek Seung Jo’s family.  Turns out that their fathers are longtime friends and Baek Seung Jo and Oh Ha Ni are forced to spend a lot of time together.  But much to his dismay, Baek Seung Jo has feelings about Oh Ha Ni too.

But what would a Korean drama be without some love triangles (and rectangles)!  A high school classmate named Bong Joon Gu (played by Lee Tae Sung)  is in love with Oh Ha Ni.  He’s nice and all but a little too overbearing and just can’t compete with Seung Jo.  The drama’s resident B-word Yoon Hae Ra (played by Lee Si Young) tries to get her claws into Baek Seung Jo and steps all over Oh Ha Ni’s turf, trying to steal her man.

Baek Seung Jo and Oh Ha Ni try to figure out just how they feel about each other in their complicated relationship one playful kiss at a time.

Angela: This drama is 16 episodes long, the longest drama I have ever watched.  And I loved every single episode.   The whole “guy’s a jerk but she still loves him” is not new but the fact that the main characters inspire each other to become better people is a pretty attractive drama trait for me.

Also, the drama didn’t really have filler episodes like some dramas.  Each episode had something big and exciting and usually a cliff hanger and that kept me from fast fowarding through any parts.  The minor characters had their own stories but they didn’t distract or steal the spotlight from the main characters.  Let’s face it, sometimes we just really don’t care about minor characters.

I give this drama a thumbs up and especially recommend it to people that are just getting into Korean dramas like myself, because you won’t get bored with this one.

JoJo: I LOVED THIS DRAMA. The first Asian drama I ever watched was the Japanese version of “Absolute Boyfriend”, to which I also read the manga. I also watched “Heading to the Ground” (It’s also Yunho time!) and most of “Oh! My Lady” starring Siwon from Super Junior.

And despite all that wonderfulness … this drama was my absolute favorite. Like Angela said, every episode had something and I NEVER wanted to stop watching it. I tried to get an episode in a day but … I watched four in a row once because it was so good.

The Series That Started It All (playful Kiss And Other Korean Series You Will Surely Love)

I call Angela Baek Seung Jo when she’s being mean to me and she calls me Oh Ha Ni when I’m being cute. Haha. It’s a great relationship. XD.

I LOVED the main character, Seung Jo for his coldness but obvious love (and who DOESN’T love the great Kim Hyun Joong? Mmmm, delicious!) but I loved Oh Ha Ni even more.

This is the first actress that I will DEFINITELY be looking out for in the future. She made the drama seem more life-like than most dramas I’ve seen. She also got to kiss Hyun Joong, like, twenty times. Jealous, much? I think so.Playful Kiss (장난스런 키스) is a South Korean romantic dramedy series starring Kim Hyun Joong, Jung So Min, Lee Si Young, and Lee Tae Sung. The show premiered on September 1st, 2010, and the final episode aired on October 21st, 2010.
