The Universe Star Korean Drama Trailer

The Universe Star Korean Drama Trailer

So, coming from its title, Three Color Fantasy series is some sort of a three-part series that depicts three different stories. I will not really go into detail with that since I only watched two out of three based (The Universe’s Star and

Many loved this story and Queen of the Ring so I thought to give it a shot. On the other hand, even though the second story in the series, which is titled Romance Full Of Life, stars Yoon Si Yoon–one of my favorite actors, I decided against watching it since I still have many pending dramas to watch and give a personal review of. Maybe in a later time I may give it some time, but let’s see about that.

-

The Universe’s Star is a love story between a gifted singer-songwriter Woo-joo (Kim Jun-myeon) and Byul (Ji Woo), a 19-year-old student who becomes the Grim Reaper after dying in an accident.

Character that Lee Dong Wook played the role of in the drama pretty much became the ideal model in making another story with same themes. I am not sure if this happens in the Korean Drama world but I dare say writers, producers, etc. might have been inspired to make another grim reaper as their character due to the concept catching the hearts of viewers.

. If we reason out that way then this puts this drama to the group of clichés (but not just for that reason alone) too.

However, despite this personal opinion of mine that some might agree to, all clichés have a room in the world. We don’t just simply skip them just because we already saw something similar. Still, it’s up to you. I mean, I’m the type of person that is always eager to find the difference in things people say are similar, typical, boring or whatever. I don’t typically go for the norm, the trend or the common thing, because that will only make you even more biased in not wanting to try something. The common people’s opinions cannot always be the same as yours; that’s me. You are you. At the end of the day, your opinion can differ from mine.

But let’s say that this is really a big cliché and a popular member of an idol group (EXO) in the name of Kim Joonmyeon (aka Suho) is playing the male lead role. Let’s say you’re probably just going to watch this because you are his fan and you love him to death so even if he acts badly you will still watch till the end. Let’s say this is the type of drama that is cut out from a fan fiction. This entire paragraph may say everything that you need to know about the drama; let’s put it that way.

However, seeing from a far isn’t the same as looking closely. So, despite all the cliché and the fanfic plot it similarly has that only a true fangirl can write, give the drama a chance. Since, you may think Suho sucks just because he is an idol and idols don’t act well and are only used to guarantee high viewership ratings; let me tell you that despite his flaws, Suho acted well in this drama. He has portrayed the role of an artist/idol well and despite his greek-god-statue-slash-angelic face that distracted me while watching him act (that really made me feel so awkward watching him—like reaaaaally), he was able to melt my heart with a smile. His dialogues were heartfelt and even though he wasn’t trying to be cute I find him that way.

On the other hand, Ji Woo—who portrayed the role of Kim Hana/ Chun Gil/ the grim reaper—was able to capture my heart with her acting. I’m not really familiar with her and I guess she’s one of those actresses you can consider a rookie (or I’m not really sure what), but she managed to change my opinion of her from the female lead who snatched away Suho

The Universe's Star Korean Drama

From his fans to the girl who fits her role and has perfect chemistry with him. To her credit, I want to say that she portrayed the character well—who is bright, positive, hopeful yet timid.

-

I like, too, that Ji Woo is able to show the kind of fan who is very considerate to their idol. The kind of fan that loves and respects the artist and only wishes the best for them. I love that her character isn’t created the other way around. Because if they created her character as the obsessive, clingy, and delusional-wishful (who wishes the death of her oppa’s girlfriend) type I might be able to say a lot of negative things to how bad they wrote the idea of a fan (that will say a lot as to how

See us and will give a bad impression to outsiders of what kind of people fans are). Because this is a show many people can watch, it’s a plus that they didn’t give the fans a bad name. This is besides the fact that one of Suho’s dialogues became extremely controversial for comparing fans to ATMs.

Other than that, plot and pacing wise, the story line is great. There are time skips and flashbacks, but they are well positioned in the drama. It’s quite similar to some of the dramas you might have already watched where a dead person turns to either an angel or a grim reaper to fulfill another purpose in the life of a human that they will fall in love with. Despite that concept being used too often and you may say it’s highly unlikely to happen, it is good to know that after watching the drama these writers can bring a part of us imagining ourselves becoming something after one thing. They let us think and ask the common WHAT IFs. They cause us to entertain the idea of the impossible become possible by dramatizing them.

Down to the chemistry of the characters, I must say it seemed pretty genuine. They look so real that you will just wish they are really together in real life (I’m trying to psyche myself while writing this and give the point of an outsider who is a hopeless romantic).

Review:

In terms of the EQ, there’s no doubt you will need your tissue. The issue of life and death is tackled significantly in this drama that it will touch you to the point you’ll find yourself crying. I am not sure about you, but that’s how it went for me. I cried so many times, especially when the heroine starts reminiscing about her mom she left behind or whenever she goes about her regrets, the things she never got to do before she died, and the thought that her last moment wasn’t so great and not what she expected was so damn heart-breaking that I was asking myself how a mini series like that can kill me over and over.

There’s so many things I want to discuss, but let’s leave it at this for now. Over all, though, I’ll give an above average mark for this drama since I found it really touching despite the light themes and the clichés.

I’m sure many people were more intrigued and drawn to this drama considering EXO’s very own leader, Suho was starring in it, but I think the writer was also an added bonus! This drama really does start off with a bang. Within the first 5 minutes of the drama, you have the female lead, Byul Yi (Ji Woo) die tragically in a car accident. This leads to her becoming one of many grim reapers. We learn that Byul Yi is a hardcore fangirl who is
