TvN has truly been dabbling with fantasy elements lately, always giving their audiences something different within an industry that likes to keep it structured and simple. Circle is really daring, combining science fiction elements with various narratives during different time periods – the present and the future. This post in itself has been delayed because I’ve had to watch the first several episodes myself to really grasp the plot and figure out what the heck is going on!

Film & Tv

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Korean drama that involves aliens and code names so I’m intrigued. Will this even work?

Centred on the whole concept of a utopian future that seems unachievable, an alien invasion creates a future humans have only dreamed of and fantasized – a seemingly perfect world. However, in the midst of all this, mysteries surround a Crime Detective, Kim Joon Hyuk (Kim Kang Woo) from the future who must figure out what happened to a University Student, Kim Woo Jin (Yeo Jin Goo) in the past (which happens to be 2017) in order to set things straight and save lives in their respective time periods, thus altering the future.

CIRCLE

To make things even more intriguing, the futuristic world is divided into two as “Smart Earth” and “General Earth.” Smart Earth is free of degradation and human ‘filth’ such as crime, disease and poverty, entirely emotionless while General Earth is rampant with emotion and teeming with lawless people and depravity. Kim Joon Hyuk has to uncover the truth about a murder that happens in Smart Earth where emotions are controlled and repressed, a crime unfathomable for this side of the world.

Circle Of Love Chinese Drama Ending Explained, Cast, And Plot

Kim Woo Jin on the other hand, investigates suspicious incidents on his University campus as people end up dead along with the disappearance of his brother – something unknowable and dark is happening without anyone realizing it.

Phew. That is some heavy subject matter to deal with and one more accustomed to the big screen, box office hits. I’ve tried condensing it as best as I could in order to capture the gist of things. It’s essentially a drama that follows two narratives that will eventually collide, full of mysteries and sci-fi elements that will have people guessing and trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together.

Flash

I like the idea of aliens trying to control the human species, attempting to put a lid on human nature, the emotions that make people well…human! It’s dark, cynical, and mysterious in the best way possible and with an incredible cast like this, you won’t want to miss this. Check out the first two episodes, it might be your cup of tea even if sci-fi isn’t entirely your thing.Taking place in both the present year 2017 and in the year 2037, when people believe that their future depends on humans controlling and regulating their emotions, this drama is a sci-fi mystery. When alien visitors arrive on Earth, humans learn new skills from them and take advantage of them; what ensues is a story of alliance, resistance, and love. Each episode will contain two shorter stories, the first part set in 2017 and called “Beta Project, ” with the second set in 2037 and called “Grand New World.” Edit Translation

This is probably the best show I have watched that I couldn't predict! Just when you start to think you know what's going to happen, you don't. I about broke my neck there were so many plot twists, but I loved it!! I love how everything fit together and came together. It might be confusing or a bit slow in the first episode, but it picks up so fast to the point that you're practically running to keep up. I loved the story, the casting was on point, and so was the music. I wouldn't mind watching this again even if I know all the plot twists already. Since it is only 12 episodes it doesn't take that long to watch and it feels like it goes by so fast! All in all, I loved it and it's going on my favorites list!

Korean television rarely does science fiction, so Circle has novelty in its favor. Unfortunately it tries to cram the entire genre into a mere twelve episodes. It dashes from alien encounters to mad scientists to dystopian utopias to cyberpunk hackers to clones without ever stopping to flesh out a single theme or develop a unique voice and production style. It raises some interesting questions about the role memory plays in identity and whether trauma is an important part of our humanity or an impediment to happiness, but it never digs into its ideas in a meaty, revelatory way. Plot points are introduced to provide “twists” and then discarded when they’re no longer useful. Characters often behave in unbelievable ways, and perfunctory directing leads to visual inconsistencies and hackneyed acting choices. Yeo Jin Goo is talented enough to be riveting anyway, but the rest of the cast suffers. The final result is a show that feels more like a sketch than a finished product. It’s fast paced enough to hold viewers’ attention but it doesn’t give either of its worlds or timelines the care and attention they deserve.New: An item that has never been opened or removed from the manufacturer’s sealing (if applicable). ...
