It being Kiss Day (June 14 in Korea), what better way to celebrate than to recognize all the electrifying shmooches from our favorite K-dramas of 2016. Kiss scenes are so essential in a K-drama, especially when there’s a love story involved (which is basically all the time). Some kiss scenes can make you scream, cry, or jump for joy.
Leading up to the airing of this drama, Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo showed that they were bursting with chemistry. From the photo shoots to the behind-the-scenes clips, these two looked perfect for each other. This chemistry definitely helped for their hot and heavy kiss scenes, especially that handcuff scene; Oh Yeon Joo (Han Hyo Joo) was willing to do just about anything for her true love, Kang Chul (Lee Jong Suk), and this was also the first time he had reciprocated her love.
The emotional rollercoaster that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo’s characters went through made the pick-up truck kiss scene so much more satisfying to viewers. It brought so much joy to see Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) finally let her guard down and let Yoo Shi Jin (Song Joong Ki) into her heart. It was always hard for Kang Mo Yeon to ever know if Yoo Shi Jin was going to return from the field in one piece, which made it that much harder to let him into her life. This kiss scene pretty much sealed the deal between the two. No more break-ups!
Romantic Korean Dramas You Can't Miss
This fairy tale love story is almost every girls dream. Shim Soon Duk (Seo Ye Ji) was the lover of Yoon Shi Woo (Lee Hyun Woo), who played an idol, and on top of that, she had some lovey-dovey kiss scenes with him. The lucky Seo Ye Ji showed us K-pop fans what it would be like to date an idol or bias and it was satisfying to live vicariously through her character.
There’s nothing better than an emotional kiss scene, especially after a fight. There’s also that staple running after the woman and then kissing her as she turns around. This kiss scene is an especially romantic part in “Lucky Romance” because it happens right after Shim Bo Nui (Hwang Jung Eum) tries to break up with Je Soo Ho (Ryu Jun Yeol). Unable to believe her words, he doesn’t let her go without a fight. So romantic!
Sigh. How much more sweet and endearing can these two be? Louie (Seo In Guk) and Go Bok Sil (Nam Ji Hyun) are totally smitten with each other when they share a cute and intimate kiss in a book store. Doesn’t it give you butterflies seeing Louie hold her hand while he’s kissing her? It’s so soft and sweet!
Korean Supper Kiss Collection [the Best Of Korean Kiss]
There were many kiss scenes in “Doctors” that were pretty steamy. Despite the age difference, Yoo Hye Jung (Park Shin Hye) and Hong Ji Hong (Kim Rae Won) showed that age doesn’t matter when it comes to chemistry. The kiss in the rain and the passionate kiss on the doll claw machine was exciting to watch, especially because of the fact that their love was unrequited for almost 10 years. Their kisses showed their desire and passion for each other!
The first kiss between Lee Young (Park Bo Gum) and Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung) in “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds” was so innocent and pure that it was hard not to have butterflies. What even made it more intense was Lee Young’s heartfelt and infamous confession, “I’m going to try it once. That wicked love.” This whole kiss scene reminded you of that irresistible first love story that makes your heart burst with love.
This is a couple whose kiss scenes are hard to forget. Their chemistry was a huge factor, but it was also the story behind these two lovers. Their inability to be with each other made their kiss scenes that much more intense and passionate. Although there were many scenes worth mentioning, the one that was most memorable was the kiss when Park Do Kyung (Eric Mun) had Oh Hae Young (Seo Hyun Jin) were fighting and then suddenly broke out in a passionate kiss against the wall.
Top 10 K Drama Kisses
I think everybody’s jaws dropped when they saw this confession scene between Wang So (Lee Joon Gi) and Hae Soo (IU) in “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo.” The simple words “I love you” triggered a wave of emotions that made this kiss scene one of the most unforgettable ones of 2016.
“Don’t Dare to Dream” had its fair share of steamy kiss scenes, but the first kiss between Pyo Na Ri (Gong Hyo Jin) and Lee Hwa Shin (Jo Jung Suk) was really hot to say the least. As the two are in the midst of an intense and emotional fight, they finally lock lips. The rain in the background added to the depth and passion of this scene. Ugh, so sweet!
Is a writer who can be most often seen singing her heart out at karaoke, walking her dog, or indulging in dessert. Her current obsessions include Song Joong Ki, Big Bang, “Goblin, ” and “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.” Make sure you follow binahearts on Instagram as she journeys through her latest Korean crazes! We all know the dreaded K-drama dead fish kiss—when the female lead stands with her eyes wide open as the man inches towards her face and then they barely brush lips. Nothing is more infuriating after you've invested hours watching a romance develop. I'm not saying that they need to rip each others' clothes off during the first date, but when people are in love (and especially when they overcome absurd plot hurdles for that love), physical desire is a manifestation of that emotional connection.
The Series That Started It All (playful Kiss And Other Korean Series You Will Surely Love)
Just like a bad K-drama kiss can undermine the emotional payout of the show, a good kiss filled with passion makes the whole thing worth watching. So, for those of you tired of frozen lip-bumps, here are the 10 best gut-flipping, knee-melting kisses we've ever seen in K-dramas.
(Note: We've overhauled this post to celebrate all the many fantastic kiss scenes since we originally wrote it in 2013. Updated: February 2017)
I agonized over which kiss to choose from this series. The cola kiss is more generally popular, but the the karaoke kiss was what really sold me on this show. In both scenes, it's this intense, immediate realization of attraction that leads to on-screen magic. There have been some close competitors in recent years, but this show still takes the cake as the best K-drama kiss. 2. Healer: Apartment Kiss
The Best Kisser Oppa Goes To…: Choose From These 5 Korean Drama Actors!
I know what you're thinking, and you can just stop right now. Yes, the hat kiss is the more iconic one from this show. No, that does not make it the best kiss.
K-dramas looooooove to use props that make kisses memorable (aka easy to nickname), but those props often undermine the execution itself. No, I don't think that licking foam off of someone's face or sharing a piece of sharp, pointy toast is romantic. Call me a kissing purist, but I'm sticking with this beautiful, vulnerable, loving kiss instead of the one where the female lead can't see anything.
Surprise! Adults actually like to kiss each other sometimes. If you want to see a series that actually addresses the topic of sex, this is the show for you.
Best Action Thriller Romance K Dramas To Have On Your Watchlist (2022 Update)
You had to know this was coming.New K-dramas may try to edge this one out, but it's a classic for a reason. The pure emotion behind this scene ramps up the passion, and of course, Yoon Eun Hye pulls her weight, which explains how she ended up in 2 of the top 5 Korean drama kisses on this list. 5. Queen In Hyun's Man: Tiptoe Kiss
I remember hearing about how good this kiss was, and I wasn't disappointed. This is one of the best K-drama love stories of all time, and the kissing matches the romance.
This show was nonsense, but this kiss was probably the best part of the whole thing. I don't know that it's worth watching the entire series just for the kiss, so let me tell you the important parts. Yoo Yun Suk's character is a jerk for no reason, Kang So Ra's character puts up with him for no reason, and then this kiss happens, and then blah blah. Just watch this on repeat and skip the rest.
Here Are The Top 10 Steamiest K Drama Kiss Scenes Of The 2010s
She's dating his best friend, and they have no business kissing, but when Jo Jung Suk looks at her like that, it's impossible not to put this one on the list. #sorrynotsorry
This kiss isn't entirely unproblematic since he's pinning her up against a wall before it begins, but it's pretty clear from the start that they're both extremely invested in that kiss. Seo Hyun Jin is like a younger Yoon Eun Hye—she's always just as passionate as her male costars in the kissing department.
I debated whether I should reward Park Seo Joon's kissing abilities in Witch's Romance or She Was Pretty, and a drama-watching friend convinced me this one was the better choice. Really, you can't go wrong with Park Seo Joon.
