So I started watching the first episode of a drama about an affair, looking forward to an opening scene of a happily-married couple without the hint of an affair but episode 1 is already showing Jang Hee Tae (played by Uhm Tae Wong) on surveillance, sees his wife enters a house and being hugged by a man as soon as she enters the door. WOW.
, I asked my self. But since I am too bored and lazy to stop, and I have have already started, why not? I continued with the first episode, holding on to the belief that the writer is good. He could’ve barged into the door where he saw his wife enter, screamed and shouted… but he didn’t. Instead, he just remained sitting on the floor – in shock – trying to ponder where he could’ve been wrong. Trying to be rational, eh? Why would he think that it was HE who is at fault?
Starting their love story, back then, he was a substitute teacher and she, her now wife – was a student. (though they really haven’t met as a teacher and a student – rather as a young man and a student)
Open Thread: Secret Love Affair Episodes 5 & 6
SO I was only expecting A STORY OF A CHEATING WIFE. But never expected A STUDENT-TEACHER RELATIONSHIP. Daebak. All Affairs in one. What could be next? (Now I know what trailers are for.)
I would’ve understand it If Hee Tae was a heart-throbbing, super cool high school teacher then (since most S-T relationship in mangas are like that), or Kim Il Ri (played by Lee Si Young) was a miss perfect, miss congeniality, miss-I’m-everything-you-could-ask-for in high school; but NO. Neither was cool nor at least stands out. Yes, Hee Tae looks like a bachelor but nothing beyond the normal or average teacher. And Il Ri?! First impression: She is below normal. A loner, weirdo, chanting on UFOs and being called Andro by her classmates and lives on the saying “You Only Live Once”.
And judging by the first stills of the episode, I could say that Hee Tae is a ‘late-bloomer’; being circumcised at a late age (or could it be, it’s the writer’s way of telling us viewers that he is a ‘late-bloomer) And Il Ri, a rather talkative, immature student who doesn’t really think of her actions or words first. Wow. How can they be a match?!
Dave' Finale Recap, Season 3, Episode 10: Looking For Love
Hee Tae knows she is a student, acknowledges her as a kid and still finds her cute and has taken quite an interest to her. Quite creepy, if you were to ask me.
It’s funny coz at one time, Hee Tae asked Il Ri “Why do you have infinite layers?” and probably, one reason why he fell in love with her (though I’m not really sure if this is a VALID LOVE) because he was able to get through those infinite layers and see the IR hiding deep inside: That despite the weirdo-chanting-Andro Il Ri everyone knows, there is the normal, sensitive, and young girl that is hidden beneath those infinite layers(whoa… this drama is deeeeeeep.. toooooo deeeeeep.)
I was looking forward to seeing Hee Tae as a mature, young adult who knows what is right from what is wrong; however when she was kissed by IR, damn! This guy totally lost it. Probably his first time being shaken/swayed by a woman (ah no, a young girl I should say). As a matured man, he should’ve stopped her or at least told her it’s not a right thing for a student to do to her teacher. (ah! and I just remembered he was a teacher too!) When he let her do that without any hint of resisting or regret or disappointment, he had already crossed the line.
Was It Love: Episode 1 » Dramabeans Korean Drama Recaps
Episode 1 and we already know who the husband is, and the wife and other hints on the other lead characters, particularly the Jang Family: stalker-overly-jealous mom, “cheating” father, cool sister and sort-of-like-a-pain-in-the-ass-brother.
More or Less, this episode is more like a preview or introduction to the lead characters; an idea of how immature IlRi and Hee Tae’s love started (I really do believe their love story is Immature) After this episode, I wouldn’t have continued watching after getting irritated by Uhm Tae Wong’s character (as Hee Tae) but Lee Si Young (as Il Ri) showed an acceptable portrayal of a high school weirdo. She is fun to watch, and she gave justice to her role as a high school kid in love. Her character seems to be easily swayed by the moment too, and I don’t know, she doesn’t seem to have a standard of what is and what is not to do.
I’m dying to know how she got caught in an affair, how it all happens and what comes after. So I decided to continue watching.

“Hey. Lee SooHyuk, the cool guy from White Christmas and HIghSchool King, has a new drama. Not lead tho; however, try to imagine him as a carpenter…”
Wait. What? Lee SooHyuk as a carpenter? I’ve always seen him playing the role of a 3C (Cool-Clean-Classy) guy, but as a sweaty, common laborer? WAIT.
Review: You From Another Star [my Love From Another Star]
Well, I guess the role is more mature than the previous ones that I’ve watched. Maybe viewers will see more of him SHIRTLESS. (well, not really a fan of shirtless guys. But the idea of seeing him in a completely different role sounds promising.)
Haven’t really watched his other dramas/movies. If you know a not-so-3C role of him, please do recommend it to me~ (Yeah, Obviously I am a new Soo Hyuk fan)
Back to the role, hmm… I’ll probably check on the drama when I get the time (or If I could overcome my laziness), I thought, until my friend continues saying, “…as a carpenter – and a mistress.”
Jang Ok Jung, Live In Love Episode 14 Recap
OH NO. A mistress?! Not gonna watch. Nah, Too Mature. No longer interested. Not my type of drama. Never my thing. Will probably just wait for reviews about his acting…
…but the drama writer is Kim Do Woo – the same writer of My Name is Kim Sam Soon. (tho I haven’t really watched MNIKSS, but I heard it has great reviews. Hehe.)
Again, it is a story of an affair: Cheating wife, flirty third wheels, mistrust. Yes, I want to see him acting on a different role; but the idea of him being the third wheel? I don’t wanna see myself in front of the monitor screaming, “what have you gotten yourself into?!” – obviously being disappointed.
Love In Contract: Episodes 1 2
(I’m probably just thinking of affairs in general. I’m more into psychologically/horror/mystery-themed dramas – those that require using your head like Liar Game, Death note, White Christmas- and so as light rom-com dramas: those that don’t require using your head at all. Hehe.)
My friend has recommended watching Misaeng. I said I’ll just wait for it to end in Korea so I can continuously watch it online. (yeah, this drama is already on my list but has never really got the strength to fight my boredom and laziness with.)
Three weeks had passed since Valid Love started airing in Korea, I saw the trailer in Channel M and was fascinated by the dramatic lighting and scenery. (Since I already succumbed myself to not watching the drama, I never even thought of watching the trailer in Youtube.)
Valid Love Ep 1 10 Discussion Post
And since It’s late at night, everyone at home is fast asleep and I can’t fall asleep… I searched for the drama online and started watching…
It’s quite hard to make reviews when you’ve already watched all currently airing 12 episodes. And being a first time blogger/drama reviewer, I don’t know how this blog-thingy actually works. Help me? I just want to say what’s on my mind tho.
You can search for the drama teaser on youtube. I was only familiar with the actors but don’t really know them – acting-wise. Will try to review their acting here in my posts as well. Kudos!Hee Tae met his future wife, Il Ri, when he worked as a temporary biology teacher at an all-girls high school. Il Ri was a student there. Now, Hee Tae works as a fishery researcher and spends his days in a typical marriage. One day, he learns that his wife is having an affair with a carpenter. He becomes angry for the first time, how is he going to handle this new revelation? Edit Translation
Nevertheless Season 1, Episode 6 Recap
I wasn’t going to review this drama. In fact, for the first 18 episodes I was pretty much just watching it for the hotness that is Lee Soo Hyuk. And at one point in the doldrums of the ‘teens episodes I was about to drop it altogether. I’m so glad I didn’t. It has flaws for sure: a really unlikeable female lead character, a (for the most part) pretty blah male lead character, a (at times) pretty stalker-y second male lead with anger issues, and lovelines so messed up that I really had no clue how the writer
