What do Rachael Ray, Anthony Bourdain, Ed Sheeran, and Channing Tatumhave in common? They love their Korean barbecue, and they only go to one place to get it.
According to co-owner Bobby Kwak, people like cronut inventor Dominique Ansel, chef David Chang, the Williams sisters, Maria Sharapova, and Chris Rockrecently frequented the restaurant, to name a few.
Korean Barbecue Hit Baekjeong Is Coming To The Bay Area
One of the reasons the restauranthas become so popular is because it provides an authentic Korean experience— from communal tables to ceaselessK-Pop blaringin the background. Ateam of attentive servers multitasks by grillingmarbled slabs ofmeat in front of guests, refilling various side dishes to no end, and bellowing Welcome to Baekjeong! in Korean every time someonewalks through the door.
We focused on the authenticity of Korean barbecue, said co-owner BobbyKwak. We wanted people [of all backgrounds] to come in and get the closest thing to what a real Korean barbecue in Seoul is like.
Each tablefeaturesa built-in grilling pit for meat, though it also has special compartments for sides like steamed eggand corn cheese to cook in.Customers can order a la carte, or opt for either pork or beef, and will then be presented witha combination ofthree different cuts of the animal.A soybean paste or kimchi stew also accompanies each meal, as well asan array of Korean side dishes like kimchi and tofu.
Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong: A Restaurant In New York, Ny
While some celebs like Bourdain don't mind minglingwith the masses and waiting for a table like everyone else (Baekjeong doesn't usually take reservations), some stars expect a more exclusive treatment, according to executive chef Deuki Hong, a rising-celebrity chef himself. These celebs willsnag themselvesone of the two private dining rooms on the second floor, where Chef Hong, who recently wrote acookbookthathas becomeaNew York Times bestseller, will personally grill thema specialselection of meats.
Baekjeong, meaning butcher in Korean, is a franchise restaurant owned by Korean comedian and retired wrestlerKang Ho Dong. The New York City location is one of its mostpopular joints.
Luckily for those who don't want to wait two hours for dinner, the restaurant stays open until the break of dawn— from 11.30 a.m. to 6 a.m. Manychefs, like those fromnearby NoMad and Eleven Madison Park, stop by the restaurant afterclosing their own for the night.

Baekjeongrecently openedlocations in Flushing, Queens, and Palisades Park, New Jersey. The waiting time there will besignificantly shorter, though the celebrity sightings might be fewer.Baekjeong is the newest Korean BBQ restaurant in town, located on Calgary trail where Kobe used to be. They've completely renovated the place, giving it a much more rustic and homey feel.
I've noticed that pretty much every table ordered one of the combos because they're very good value. Each combo comes with a selection of 3-5 meats, a soup, and steamed egg. An individual meat entree for grilling costs close to $30 and does not come with any extras, so it's a good idea to get at least one combo and order additional items for sharing.
After placing our order of C1 ($85 beef combo for 2-3 people), we were quickly served a complimentary salad and banchan (side dishes) while we waited for our meat. We were also given a variety of sauces and lettuce for wrapping the meat with. The good news is that all of these items are refillable! Yes unlimited salad, side dishes, and lettuce! Also just a note that their kimchi is quite spicy, possibly the spiciest one I've tasted.

When the meat finally arrived, my first thought was that it didn't look like a lot. Two people could easily finish this! But it turned out it was just the right amount, and it could even feed three people if you throw in a couple bowls of rice. Because there was also the soup, the steamed egg, and unlimited salad and side dishes.
The server told us to put the onion and king oyster mushroom in the middle of the grill, and the meat on the side as shown below. After the meat is cooked to your liking, put it on top of the veggies to prevent overcooking. This worked well for us, but since we left the veggies on the grill the whole time, the underside was burnt and we didn't get to eat the tasty caramelized onion. The meat was all very good quality and my favourite cut was the thick sliced prime rib eye steak, followed by the sliced boneless beef short rib. The sliced beef rib finger was difficult to cook evenly due to its irregular shape, and I found the thin sliced beef lower brisket a bit too fat and greasy.
Now onto the soup and steamed egg that came with the combo! You can choose between Korean bean curd soup and kimchi soup. I went with the latter because of several positive reviews, and it did not disappoint. Although the portion was not very big, the hot and spicy soup definitely hit the spot. The steamed egg was also very good despite its appearance. It was much puffier when it first arrived, but quickly deflated like a souffle. And although it was not burnt, it had a delightfully charred taste to it.
Home — Baekjeong Kbbq
This is definitely a place I'd come back to, especially with a bigger group to try some of the individual entrees or other non-BBQ dishes on the menu. It would be the perfect venue for a casual group gathering or special occasion. If we were to talk about famous emcees in Korea, Kang Ho Dong would surely be one of them! He has worked in many fields before such as being a wrestler, an emcee, a comedian and now he is also a restaurant owner! His restaurant is called Kang Ho Dong BaekJeong. It is located in the famous shopping street, “Myeong Dong”.
His restaurant is very near to the Myeong Dong station (Blue Line) and it is very easy to find as it has a big standy of Kang Ho Dong in front of the building. (If you cannot find it, look for Line Store. It is very near to that building.)
The restaurant’s operating hours are from 11.30am to 2am. It sells both Beef and Pork Korean BBQ. The price starts from 12, 900 won for Beef and 11, 900 won for Pork. They also have side dishes such as Kimchi Soup and Kimchi Fried Rice which starts from only 4, 000 won. They also have alcoholic drinks!
Best Korean Bbq In Serangoon Gardens, Singapore
The food comes as a set with the meat and sides. I would say that the meat portion is a little small compared to other restaurant BUT the quality is very high and it tastes really really good! The sides include Korean vegetable salad (Kochujung Dressing), vegetables for grill, sweetened potato (which is really good!), vegetables to eat with Galbi, Cheese and Egg.
For people who are veggie-lover like me, I would really like to recommend the Korean vegetable salad with Kochujung dressing because it is not too spicy. It is very refreshing because all the vegetables are fresh and cool! Eat it combined with warm Kochujung. It is the best!
If I were to recommend which meat to order, I would recommend “Prime Boneless Short Ribs” and “Marinated Rib Eye” for beef and “Pork belly” and “Marinated Shoulder” for pork.
Baek Jeong Korean Bbq Restaurant, Hanoi
I have to say it again that they really serve you very good quality beef and pork. They are very soft and the marinated ones also taste really good. You can get some Kimchi and Kochujung taste but not too much that they overwhelm the tender and original taste of the meat.
Moreover, if you don’t know how to grill the meat. The staff are very helpful. They speak a very good level of English and Chinese and they also come to check your dishes very often in order to ensure that you get the best out of it! For all the girls who are afraid of the smell of the Korean BBQ restaurant, this one is not a problem as well! They have a very good ventilation system.
If you go to Myeong Dong, this is surely one of a must-try restaurants! And if you are a fan of Kang Ho Dong, maybe you will meet your favorite star there!
