Netflix to bring popular Korean show ‘Kingdom 3’ to screens in 2021 1 min read 22 Feb 2021, 11:58 AM IST Staff Writer

Five Reasons Why Kingdom Season 1 Is A Stand Out Zombie Series

Indians have been increasingly taking to content from South Korea. That these crisp and entertaining shows and movies have struck a chord with audiences is evident from the investment companies are making in them

NEW DELHI: There is good news for Indian fans of Netflix’s Korean zombie tale Kingdom, whose third season is likely to hit screens soon in 2021, according to a report by entertainment portal Screen Rant. The second season of Kingdom was among the India Top 10 series in March 2020, when it released.

Viewership for Korean dramas on Netflix in India jumped a massive 370% year-on-year in 2020, according to the service. Some of the most popular K-titles in India included The King: Eternal Monarch, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and Start-up, besides Kingdom.

Netflix “kingdom” Released A Thrilling New Teaser For Its Second Season

Kingdom, is Netflix’s first Korean original, with the Joseon period, three years after the Japanese invasions of Korea as the backdrop, telling the story of crown prince Lee Chang, portrayed by actors Ju Ji-hoon, who stumbles across a life-threatening political conspiracy.

Indians have been increasingly taking to content from South Korea. That these crisp and entertaining shows and movies have struck a chord with audiences is evident from the investment companies are making in them.

Last year, direct-to-home service provider Dish TV India Ltd announced the launch of a new offering, Korean Drama Active, to be available on DishTV and D2H platforms; it gives users access to premium Korean drama content dubbed into Hindi.

It's Okay To Not Be Okay

Media experts say Korean content has garnered great interest, especially among millennials because Indian youth are able to relate to situations and narratives it explores. The cultural similarities between the two nations are quite fascinating and the belief in family values while pursuing a modern approach towards life resonates well with the viewers in India.

Korean drama has seen an increase in popularity in recent years in India given the ease of access through various OTT platforms; K Pop (a genre of south Korean music) has also been trending in India as are popular KPop artists who are part of leading Korean dramas.

K Drama Review: Kingdom Season 2 (2020) By Kim Sung Hun And Park In Je

You are now subscribed to our newsletters. In case you can’t find any email from our side, please check the spam folder. When is the Kingdom season 3 release date?In two seasons, Kingdom established itself as one of the bloodiest, most brutal zombie shows ever, and that’s a real accomplishment.

Forget The Walking Dead; whenit comes to zombie shows Kingdomis the best TV series in town. Set in 16th Century Korea, Kingdom follows Prince Lee Chang as he tries to uncover the origins of a deadly new plague, turning his people into mindless, cannibalistic monsters and resurrecting the dead. Kingdom is a blend of Game of Thrones and the best zombie movies. Fewfantasy series have balanced proper scares with political intrigue (

Don’t take our word for it, though. Kingdom has received rave reviews for both its first and second seasons. Of course, the question is, will we ever get a Kingdom season 3 release date? Well, that’s not an easy question to answer, so like Lee Chang, we’ve gone on an epic quest to uncover everything we can.

Netflix's Kingdom: What Can We Expect To See In Season 3?

Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a release date for Kingdom season 3, and we don’t know whether the show will even get the green light.

The delays around the renewal are thought to have been caused, in part, by current world events. Basically, the creators are concerned that no one wants to watch a show about a deadly plaguefollowing a worldwide pandemic.

“Because the series deals with a pandemic, I think it’s inevitable that the show is compared to the current reality and affected by it, whether it be good or bad, ” Kingdom writer Kim Eun-hee told The Hollywood Reporter. “Although the series is a product of the creators’ wild imagination, I hope the epidemic will soon be under control like in our series.”

Still, there are probably other, more business-minded reasons why a renewal hasn’t been forthcoming. While the second season reported a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the follow-up special ‘Ashin of the North’ failed to make a splash when it arrived on the streaming service, not even cracking the top ten in America and the UK (Via FlixPatrol).

Still, Netflix hasn’t officially canceled the series yet, so there’s hope that Kingdom season 3 may see the light of day. Perhaps when production hell is full, dead TV series will walk. Speaking of which, there’s supposedly another special about the Crown Prince seat for release later this year, so maybe we’ll finally get some news this winter. Either way, we’ll keep you updated.

Netflix's

We have a good idea of what will happen in Kingdom season 3, courtesy of Kim Eun-hee, who explained the next chapter would explore the plague’s origin.

Kingdom (tv Series 2019– )

“Those who have watched will know, but people like Lee Chang, Seo-bi, and Yeong-shin are all people who chase the plague, wishing it never arose, ” she told Soompi. “I’ve thought that having season three tell the story of chasing the origin of the plague would be good, so we’re thinking of doing that.”

“Season one told the story of hunger, and season two told the story of blood, ” she continued. “If Netflix agrees, I want season three to tell the story of resentment. Season two brought attention to the concept of ‘temperature’, and I think if the story were to travel north, the different ecosystems in the north would act as a hint.”

It’s likely then that the new series will pick up where the second season left off, with Lee Chang, Seo-bi, and Yeong-shin exploring the north. This will undoubtedly bring them into contact with

Kingdom: The Korean Drama You Must Watch Before 2020 Ends

We learned in the 2021 special Ashin of the North that the former spy was the one who discovered the Ressurection Plant and used it to turn her loved ones into zombies. She then supplied them with human flesh to sate their endless hunger, so our heroes should watch out if they run into her.

There’s also the dangling plot thread of the new King of Joseon, Lee Yeom. He was infected as a baby with the zombie plague but seemed to be immune. Still, the season 2 finale suggested he was more asymptomatic than truly protected from the plague, so who knows, perhaps now he’s older, he may finally turn.

Kingdom

We imagine Lee Chang, Seo-bi, and Yeong-shin will all return for the cast of Kingdom season 3 if the show gets the go-ahead for more.

That also means Ju Ji-hoon, Bae Doona, and Kim Sung-kyu will all be back. We can assume Ashin will be the new series villain, which means Jun Ji-hyun will also have to return.

Ryu Seung-ryong is unlikely to be back as Cho Hak-ju, considering his own daughter poisoned him. Still, this is a series where the dead stalk the living, so maybe the ruthless Councilor will return as a ghoul.

If we do get a Kingdom season 3, it will be available to watch on Netflix. In the meantime, check out Kingdom seasons 1 and 2, which are unsurprisingly also available to watch on the streaming service.
